“Our project is designed to help students at Santa Rosa Junior College, a public institution, find their path, whether that be through one of over 100 majors or 150 certificates.”
Problem
A significant portion of students at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) are undecided, part-time, or juggling school with work and home life. These students need additional support to figure out their career paths, majors, and potential certificates. With about 70% of SRJC students being undecided, it’s challenging for them to get timely appointments with counselors and make informed choices about their academic and career planning.
Technical Solution
The team built an interactive chatbot that uses the Holland code assessment to match students’ interests and strengths with academic programs and career paths at SRJC. The chatbot administers the Holland code test, aligns the student’s code with SRJC’s pathways, majors, and certificates, and provides personalized information and guidance. The solution aims to make academic and career planning easier and more personalized for students, while also reducing the workload on academic advisors and counselors.
