“Instead of spending time, our users earn time back. Our product gives our users back 6 weeks of time per year by eliminating the drudgery of downloading, analyzing, and manually auditing 7,000 expense reports per quarter.”
Problem
The team aimed to mitigate financial risk for the CSU system by automating the ingestion of expense reports, identifying policy violations, tracking spending patterns, and creating reports for management and budgeting purposes. The existing manual process of downloading, analyzing, and auditing 7,000 expense reports per quarter was time-consuming and inefficient.
Technical Solution
The team developed a web-based platform that streamlines the expense report auditing process. The solution leverages AWS services like Lambda functions, S3 buckets, Glue, DynamoDB, and API Gateway. It automates the ingestion of expense reports, cleans and formats the data, and provides interactive dashboards for easy analysis. The dashboards display policy violations, spending patterns, and reports tailored for management’s needs.
