“Our new Chatbot: CCCApply Assistant supports multiple languages, Natural Language Search, allows PDF uploads, syncs with CCCApply Public Documentation, and speeds up staff response time.”

Problem

The California Community Colleges (CCC) system faces several challenges, including difficult application processes, language barriers, slow staff responses, lack of easily accessible information, and absence of user-friendly tools for students and staff.

Technical Solution

The team developed a chatbot called “CCCApply Assistant” to address these challenges. The chatbot supports multiple languages, offers natural language search capabilities, allows PDF uploads, synchronizes with CCCApply public documentation, and aims to speed up staff response times. The implementation utilizes AWS services such as S3 for static website hosting and knowledge base storage, API Gateway for RESTful endpoint management, Lambda for serverless compute, Bedrock KB for AI model integration and embeddings, and OpenSearch as a vector database for semantic search.
