Problem

Every semester, around 5,500 incoming students need to be placed into math courses at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. This process is currently managed by a single staff member who has to handle a large volume of emails and phone calls, leading to burnout and inefficiency

Technical Solution

The team developed MathPath AI, a chatbot that can answer frequently asked questions related to math placement courses. It uses the Cal Poly SLO knowledge base and integrates with the student database to provide personalized responses. The chatbot aims to alleviate the workload on staff, improve response times, and create a more welcoming experience for students.
